Steve Yavner, PhD

Steve anchored and reported sports for 10 years in West Palm Beach, Florida and at CNN Sports in Atlanta.

His 25-year career in broadcast journalism includes news producer and management positions in Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami.

He was a senior newsroom manager for eight years in the CBS Miami newsroom, where he supervised partnerships with The Miami Herald and The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.

Steve began teaching at the University of Miami, where he ran the university’s television station and earned a Masters Degree.

He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Communication and Technology from New York University and taught in the Communications Department at Fairfield University.

During his seven years at Central Connecticut State University, Steve created and launched the Sports Journalism Concentration — the first of its kind in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system. He led a Spring Training trip to cover the Red Sox and Twins in Fort Myers, and he created summer journalism programs for middle and high school students. Steve was honored by CCSU for his outstanding work in digital education.

Steve continues to assist students and families with college advising, college essays, and test prep classes.
